The development of tourism on Island Murter
Tourism begain on Island Murter as early as the 1920s. The first tourists to Tisno arrived in 1923, from the Czech Republic. The first private hotel in Tisno, “Borovnik”, was run by the Pasqualin family. Having opened at the end of the 1930s, Borovnik was among the first hotels to open in the entire Šibenik - Knin County. The dedication of the owners is clearly evident from the hotel’s brochure and price list (see photos).
The first cooperative for the promotion of tourism on Murter was organized in 1939, followed in 1953 by the founding of “Slanica” – the first tourism society in the former Šibenik district. The Colentum hotel in Slanica bay was built in 1966.
In the village of Jezera, along with the development of the fishing industry, the local tourism industry also started to flourish, and today it is the main industry in Jezera and throughout the island of Murter. The tourism society in Jezera was founded in 1962.
The first serious development of tourism in Betina started in 1953, when the combined efforts of local students, water polo players and shipyard representatives were concentrated on converting the quay in Zdračama into a beach. This collaboration marked the foundation of the tourism society in Betina, which was incorporated in 1964 as the “Gradina” tourism society.
