Traditional Food


The local cuisine on offer is based on traditional dishes as prepared in local restaurants, taverns and other catering establishments using traditional methods, in accordance with the Dalmatian climate. The general characteristics of Dalmatian cuisine are fresh ingredients, simple preparation with just a few herbs and spices (besides the usual parsley, garlic, onion and bay leaves), while avoiding any great deal of experimentation with the latest culinary novelties. The meal should start with Dalmatian smoked ham and cheese, salted anchovies, seafood salad or fish marinade, not to mention olives - which are uniquely conserved and a compulsory item on the menu in any Dalmatian village.
