The Regatta of Body and Soul
Eight years ago this race was founded in order to promote the Betinan boat, or gajeta, as "the most successful type of wooden boat, the exceptional quality of which has been proven by farmers and fishermen alike over the centuries” as Betinjani proudly points out. Each year the event boasts a wealth of entertaining activities from pleasure sailing to competitive regattas, all accompanied by food, song, and a great atmosphere.
If you find yourself near the island of Murter in mid-August, do not miss this event. "The Regatta of Body and Soul" takes you back to the romantic period of wooden boats with white sails. The regatta is not so much about winning, but more about cultivating a respect for an old way of life that revolved around the sea.
